Kudos to the folks at the Talent Zoo for forwarding a piece by Curtis Silver discussing various cutting-edge ways the owners of the Peanuts brand look to keep the beloved comic strip and its characters relevant as time marches on.
They are developing a mobile phone game…e-books…digital apps, etc. And of course, they continue to promote Peanuts’ web presence. There is also a Twitter account for Snoopy. (have you known any dog who has spoken more often?…a no-brainer that canine would be Tweeting!)
Aside from adoring the Halloween and Christmas specials…I always have a place in my heart for Charlie Brown’s love of his favorite baseball player, the equally fictional Joe Shlabotnik. Joe once went 1 for 240 at the plate and was summarily sent down to Stumptown of the Green Grass League. I can identify with how Charlie must have felt when my favorite ball player growing up, Rick Monday (he’s real by the way), was traded to another team.
Over 60 years and running, there continue to be new ways for both young and old alike to enjoy the masterful creations of Charles M. Schulz.
