Blogging 101 – Perseverance

A few years ago, I created a blog.  Sports-themed…but injected “life outside of games” where I could.  I interacted with a lot of good folks and learned a lot from other blogs as well, but abandoned blogging several months later when “life outside of games” took over all my waking (and a few non-waking) hours.

At the time, I judged my creative outlet to not only be eligible for suspension…but I completely deleted it.  I was confident I would never, ever find – or make – the time to write again.  Gave up.  Quit.

But…having gone to college for Journalism, I never really have gotten the writing and communicating desires out of my system.

So…a couple of weeks ago I set out on another journey…this one I felt more committed than before.

And…I created a post after the men’s college basketball game a week or so ago…one of my very first posts since re-upping with WordPress…on my other site at

Next thing you know…the e-mail box is blowing up with messages congratulating me on being “FP’d.”  I didn’t even know what that meant.  Eventually…after staring at those kind remarks for a few minutes…the light bulb literally went on over my head…”Freshly Pressed.”

Sure, the page views have fallen off the cliff since that reward.  But, I’m interacting with a lot of good folks and learning a lot from other blogs as well…just as before.  More importantly, I’m doing something I genuinely love doing…whether deemed good, bad or somewhere in between.

The difference between when I quit and now is I thought I had already learned a lesson in perseverance by simply starting to write once more.  Now, I know it.

Write on, folks.  We never know where life will take us…or take us back to.
